Pregnancy & Reproductive Health in a Harm Reduction Setting

This training facilitated by the ACR Health Center of Expertise will allow attendees to:

• explore attitudes and address stigma regarding substance use during pregnancy; • Identify best practices for improving perinatal care quality, safety, and outcomes; • Discuss the impacts of substances on pregnancy, and the health of the birthing parent and infant during pregnancy and after birth; • Apply a harm reduction approach to support positive reproductive health outcomes for all people who use drugs; • Provide guidance on best practices and strategies to use in the healthcare and legal systems; • List emergency complications that can occur throughout pregnancy; • Recall substance use treatment options during pregnancy, including different medication and alternative options; • Identify pain management options, both conventional and alternative, to address the specific needs and preferences of pregnancy people who use drugs during the labor and child birthing process; and • Examine postpartum care options aimed at enhancing positive health outcomes.
